Measure 112 is a ballot measure to remove language from the Oregon Constitution that allows for slavery and involuntary servitude as a form of punishment for a crime. Voting YES by November 8th will close this “slavery loophole” to ensure our state’s most important document better reflects our values as Oregonians – and as people.
“There shall be neither slavery, nor involuntary servitude in this state, otherwise than as a punishment for crime, whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.”
The Oregon Constitution, Article 1 Section 34
At Local 5, we are a rank-and-file, bottom-up democratic organization. All political endorsements go to the body of our membership to discuss and decide upon. As such, we require at minimum two weeks notice for all endorsements requests if there are deadlines to consider, so we can complete all our processes and organize speakers to come to our meetings.
